The Bosses I Fought Twice

I have fought two bosses twice in the same run. The first was Orin. She had Gale captive until I was to face her. She turned out fairly easy if you use the right moves. The problem was that when I finally killed her in my first series of attempts, Gale died. Furthermore, my party was too worn out to fight the cultists. So, I restarted that fight completely, made sure I had an edge against the cultists for later, and made sure Gale survived.

The second was Cazador. In my first series of attempts was by conventional means. If Cazador has Astarion on his altar, you only have three turns to make the ritual fail, or Astarion is dead. Halsin points out you could use the runes, but I don't understand it. I thought I could make sure the ritual fails by killing one of the sacrifices. I cheesed it, attacking without triggering the cutscene. My Wyll has the ability to cast Daylight Spheres. So, Cazador becomes easy with the right moves.
The problem is that after finishing the fight the first time, I stopped Astarion from completing the ritual. As a result, he became an enemy. For one, my party is worn out. Two, even though I activated Non-Lethal Attacks, Astarion still died. So, I had to restart the fight from the very beginning. After that, I let Astarion complete the ritual.
