People are mis-using the term “gay community”
There's no membership card. There's no group chat we're all in. There's no council that voted on what
"the gay community" thinks about body hair or open relationships or whatever the topic of the week is.
"Why does the gay community have such toxic beauty standards?" That's not a gay community thing.
That's a people thing. Straight people do the exact same thing, they just don't get it labeled as a community decision. “Why does the gay community do X?" Because some gay people do X. Some gay people are shallow. Some are deep. Some are messy. Some are boring. Some are fun. Some are sentimental. Just like everyone else .
What's really happening is people take normal human behavior, judgment, cliquishness, superficiality, and slap "the gay community" on it like being gay is the variable. It's not. You're describing society. You just only notice it when gay people do it because you already put us in a box.
Next time you're about to type "why does the gay community..." ask yourself if it still makes sense with
"why do some people.." Because 9 times out of 10 it does. And that tells you everything.
