Lost my ATM card and someone used it for card payments (Rs. 8,500) – what should I do I'm a university student 😥

I recently lost my ATM card and before I realized it was missing, someone used it to make two card payments totaling about Rs. 8,500. I’ve already blocked the card, and the person didn’t know my PIN.

The transactions showing in my bank statement are:

• “(City name) Travels Lanka” – Rs. 1,010
• “(City name) Wine Shop” – Rs. 7,500 Hidden the city name for privacy

Both appear to be card payments at POS machines, not ATM withdrawals.

I’m planning to go to the bank tomorrow to report it as unauthorized transactions and request an investigation. I’m also considering making a police complaint if needed.

Has anyone in Sri Lanka experienced something similar?

• Were you able to get the money refunded?
• What steps helped the most with the bank investigation?

I'm a university student with a poor financial background. Any advice would really help. Thanks.
