help with skin files?

i just got the legacy launcher from gradengnostic and i was wondering if i could use customs skins by either replacing skin files or placing the custom skin into the skin folder, but i haven't been able to find any "skins" folder in any of the folders in LegacyClient. does that just not work the way i think it did?
