Is it actually normal to have no idea where your money goes every month?

I make $59k. After taxes and stuff I get about $3,800/month. My rent is $1,300. So I should have like $2,500 left for everything else right?

But every month I get to like the last week before payday and I have maybe $200 in my account. Sometimes less. And I genuinely have no idea where it all went.

I'm not buying expensive stuff. I don't have a car payment. No major debt. Just like... living? Groceries, going out with friends sometimes, random stuff I need. But it doesn't feel like $2,500 worth of stuff you know?

My friend said everyone's like this and you just kind of deal with it. But my other friend has a whole spreadsheet and knows exactly where every dollar goes and acts like that's normal.

So which is it? Are most people just winging it and hoping they don't overdraft? Or are most people actually tracking everything and I'm the weird one?

I tried using some tracking apps to figure it out and apparently I spend like $180/month on miscellaneous purchases which is just code for idk what I bought. Also $340 on food which seems high for one person but idk maybe that's normal?

Is this just what being an adult is? Never quite knowing where your money went but also not being homeless so I guess it's fine?

Or should I actually know this stuff and I'm just irresponsible? Because some people make it seem like if you're not budgeting down to the penny you're doing it wrong but that sounds exhausting.

What do normal people actually do? Like in real life not in personal finance subreddits where everyone has a 6 month emergency fund and maxes out their 401k or whatever.
