Please, any advise regarding problems with H&R Block 2025 tax return
My apologies for such a long post!
This is my first time using H&R Block (online version with Tax Pro upgrade)
After entering all my data, everything looked correct in the summary. In order to see the details I had to pay first. So, I paid and then sent the return to the so called "tax Pro". That is when all the trouble started. (things might have been ok if I had not used Tax Pro)
After a few days the pro sent the return to me to view and sign but I found a costly error. Despite the fact that I had entered all the prior years vehicle depreciation information the pro did not enter a depreciation deduction for my sole proprietor business. I messaged the pro and it took 6 days to get an answer. The Pro stated, "oh sorry, for some reason that data you entered did not flow over to me". So first, they have a software failure that could cost people money. Second, if I am paying for a tax pro, I would think that the pro should have asked me for vehicle information. The pro then said it would be corrected by the end of the day.
The corrected return was in fact completed by the end of the day but with more errors! This time the pro took standard mileage deduction instead of actual expense (despite the fact that she knew from the data I sent her that I had put the vehicle in service in 2023 and in that first year (and accordingly, in second year) used actual expense/depreciation. If depreciation is used in the first year one must continue that method until fully depreciated.
At this point I lost all trust in HRB. I do not trust them to complete my return. As such, I filed with a different software prep service (freetax usa) and they got it all correct. So, I have already paid H&R Block but have not authorized them to file. I may have to eat the fee (its actually worth it) but am wondering if anyone knows how I can cancel with HRB and possibly get my money back or if you have any similar stories to share. Thanks!
