My idea for a book starts with both the MC having amnesia and with them within a dream, is this just an absolute no-go or can it work?

The dream is a central plot point and the character will return to the dream environment several times throughout the story. They know it’s a dream (after the first one).

The amnesia is only for one day and the memories return to them over the first act.
