Stop hiring for yesterday's problems.

"We need someone who's scaled a team from 50 to 500."

Translation: "We want someone to repeat the past, not navigate the future."

Backward hiring usually means:

  • Leaders optimized for a context that no longer exists
  • Playbooks applied to problems they weren't built for
  • Innovation slowed by people protecting what worked before
  • A team moving forward while looking in the rearview mirror

Experience is context. Not a guarantee.

Hire for how people think. Not just where they've been.
