Strict warning letter for missing my IPPT after knee surgery

šŸ„ Medical

IĀ received a strict warning letter for missing my IPPT.

I tore my knee ligaments 4 months before my birthday, and went for surgery 1 month later. Naturally I was in no condition to complete my IPPT in the remaining 3 months and had informed my unit (twice, for good measure). I scheduled a medical review (after my window closed) and received a temporary down-PES and 1-year exemption from IPPT.

Regretably, I was still served with a strict warning letter. I wrote to my unit and emailed the NS hotline but they refused to withdraw the letter, citing: (1) an apparent policy that injuries in the last 6 month of your window are not sufficient cause for not attending IPPT (who knew?); and (2) that since the strict warning letter had no tangible effect, I should just accept it.

Number (1) is arbitrary, overbroad, and bad policy; but number (2) is just not true. Maybe the people I dealt with are limited in their non-public service experience, but things like these do have adverse effects. Personally, I may be ethically obligated to disclose this for professional reasons.

Most people would accept the injustice and go on with their lives. Truthfully, I gave up and I've been ignoring this for longer than I should, but recent comments in Parliament reminded me of the nonsense we go through, and am thinking of pursuing this again, if I knew how.

Suggestions welcome.
