Hi all,
Wanted to get some feedback on an idea I have, please delete if not allowed here. I’m working on an idea for a sports card data tool called "SlabIQ" (working name lol), and I’m trying to figure out if collectors would actually find it useful or if it’s redundant. It is an ambitious project so I don't want to spend the time and money it will take to get it going without knowing collector's interest level.

The basic idea is NOT another price guide or comp lookup tool. Sites like Card Ladder, Market Movers, and 130point among others already do that well.

Instead, the goal would be to analyze sales data and surface market signals like:

• Cards with unusual demand spikes
• Players whose card markets are heating up
• Rising price floors that may signal a breakout
• Weekly “cards heating up” rankings

Basically more like market analytics instead of just charts and sales history. The ultimate goal would be to help collectors more easily determine buy or sell windows. It might help you save some money on a player you PC or help you catch a few more dollars on a card you are selling.

Example of initial output might be something like in the attached photo (pic is a mock up using fake data just as an example) but would be eventually expanded where users can track specific players of their choosing or specific sports, get notifications on market changes relevant to what they collect. It would be much more elaborate than this early mockup.

It would still use the same public sales data everyone already looks at (mainly eBay to start), but try to turn it into signals instead of just raw data. I understand this information is all out there for anyone to get but the collector is left to interpret the data, this tool would interpret it for you. My ultimate hope would be to even build in tools to identify potential shill bidding so outliers are not included in the data or at least weighted less in the data but that is for a later time. The possibilities are endless if the data can be retrieved.

This is a very early concept and I’m trying to figure out:

1. Would something like this actually be useful?
2. Would you check something like a “Top cards heating up this week” page?
3. Or do existing tools already cover this well enough?

Brutally honest feedback welcome. This will be crossposted in the r/tradingcardcommunity subreddit as well.

Would a “card market momentum” tool be useful to collectors?
