Switching to Canon from Sony?
Hello folks,
Well I'm currently thinking to switch from Sony to Canon. My current gear: bought in 2024 & 2025
- Sony A7III
- Sony 20-70mm f/4 (my fav lens)
- Tamron 28-200mm 2.8-5.6
- Sigma 150-600mm Sports
I'm a casual user, doing photography mainly when I travel (so city/street, buildings, museums, paintings/galleries statues whatever I can find in a museum, churches), and recently started wildlife / bird with the Sigma.
Since the A7V is out, I was thinking to sell my A7III to upgrade it (for the better AF, rafale and pre-capture), also to sell the Tamron that I don't use much to save money. And as A7V is having 30fps rafale, my Sigma (purchased before the release) is limited to 15 fps, and as 600mm is too short, my plan was to sell it for the Sony 400-800mm.
However several tests pointed out that Sony A7V is having very good AF for wildlife, but sometimes struggles to do the initial acquisition. And Canon seems better on this. I'm not sure that I'll do that much wildlife photography, and I love my Sony gear (20-70 <3) with very good noise management and dynamic range.
My idea was to sell all my gear to switch to Canon with this target:
- Canon R6 III
- Canon 24-105mm f/4
- Canon 200-800mm
- and maybe the Canon 16mm f2.8, as 24mm is not enough wide (cheap & light lens).
Seems Canon is very good ecosystem, I'll benefit better AF, very good camera body and buffer. But I'll lose the better DR/noise management & the open lenses ecosystem (Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox).
Would be glad to hear your thoughts on this!
Thank you.
