Advice for an outsider on getting in

Hey fellas thanks for guidance on this

I totally changed careers and moved from NYC to CA and am applying to all types of hand crews

Applied via USAJOBS to GW3 apprentice positions last week

My question is, is there any way to help myself beyond just submitting the app? If I were to call hiring managers to introduce myself over the phone, are there general offices you speak to, or should I be digging into offices associated with the 7 regions I listed as where I would want to work? Any good ideas beyond this?

I have some experience that translates into this field but no prior wildland experience.

Any wisdom here is really appreciated. Little confusing as a pure outside whose friends all work corporate jobs. Big thanks
