MT-15 Tyre Upgrade Dilemma : 140/70 vs 150/60

#Discussion 💬

I ride a Yamaha MT-15 and I’m struggling to find good tyre options in the stock 140/70 R17 size that Yamaha recommends for the rear.

Because of that, I’m considering moving to a 150/60 R17, mainly since there are many more options available (Michelin Pilot Street 2, Apollo H1, etc.). However, I’m a bit concerned about how it might change the ride quality, handling, and overall character of the bike.

Another thing I'm thinking about: when I eventually change the front tyre, the stock 100/80 might look or feel too thin if paired with a 150/60 rear. That makes me consider switching to 110/70 front as well.

Has anyone here faced a similar dilemma with the MT-15?

If you’ve tried 140/70 vs 150/60, or experimented with 100/80 vs 110/70 fronts, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience in terms of:

  • Handling and cornering
  • Stability
  • Mileage
  • Any impact on the bike’s feel or geometry

Thanks!
