The First Corruption – Music
While Qabil was living with his wife in the lower lands, they had many children.
One day, one of the children was playing with an object that made a sound. This simple sound attracted the nearby people.
Iblis, ever watchful, noticed how people were drawn to it. A cunning thought entered his mind: he taught them music.
As they learned, the people would stay up late into the night, playing music, dancing, and enjoying themselves around bonfires. The sounds and lights from these bonfires reached the pious children living atop the mountain.
Curiosity grew. One day, one of the children descended to see what was happening and never returned. Others followed, trying to find him, and were trapped by worldly amusements.
During this time, Prophet Idris (AS) was among the people. According to a hadith reported by Abu Dharr, Idris was the first man to introduce the art of reading and writing to mankind.
Seeing his people falling prey to the whispers of Shaitan, Idris could not remain passive. It is believed that Allah instructed him to call for Jihad, the first holy struggle against corruption on Earth to protect the guidance and morality of mankind. (Ibn Kathir)
Thus, the first corruption, through music and worldly distractions, took root, and the first jihad was waged to counter it.
