People who went to HYPSM revealing where they went to college

I've met two kinds and it's either 1) I went to school in Massachusetts/Connecticut or 2) namedropping their schools when no one asked or the topic had nothing to do with college at all. I always heard the latter was more common but apparently a lot of people met the former too. I'm on the west coast though so maybe that has something to do with people choosing to be more vague
