Luxury Micro wedding/Honeymoon or Wedding?
Hi Everyone,
I’m at my wit’s end and could really use some guidance. For context, my immediate family (mom, stepdad, dad, and my fiancé’s parents) seem largely indifferent about our wedding. My parents in particular have no interest in planning with us, they just don't care.
At this point in planning, we’ve determined that we can realistically spend $30–35k USD on the wedding. My preference would be $20k for the wedding and $10k for a honeymoon. I’m grateful that my fiancé is wonderful and supportive, he has said he will do anything I want.
The challenge is that we dream of a traditional, fairy-tale wedding. A formal black-tie event. With our current budget and a guest count of 100, it’s becoming clear that our ideal vision isn’t financially feasible. We’re now considering options like a luxury elopement, a micro-wedding, or a destination wedding.
Here’s where I’m struggling:
- Our families are resistant to traveling for a destination wedding.
- I am scared an elopement will not feel special.
- At my core, I’d prefer a friends-only wedding, but I worry about offending family members.
- On the other hand, I’m very close with extended family and want them to feel included.
- I haven’t found any locations in the U.S. that allow for a smaller, more intimate wedding while still capturing what we actually want.
I know logically that we need to focus on what we want, but it feels like no matter what choice we make, something is wrong or someone is upset.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has navigated similar challenges with balancing budget, guest list, and family expectations. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
