Overcoming Sexual Addiction/Temptations Part 2
Okay hello again talking about sexual sin and how to stop yielding to temptation. The first part was about changing our thinking. We have thought about these things incorrectly, our behavior inevitably flows from our thinking. Now we’re going to deal with how to actually respond to temptations. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but, mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.

It is truth that sets us free not strategies

Trying to resist temptation by our will is a losing approach
We have to know and actively believe the truth found in the word of God. Romans 6 to me is the most powerful chapter in the Bible as far instructing us on how to approach battling the flesh. It starts with perspective Romans 6: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Do you know this? That when Christ was nailed to the cross you the Christian, your flesh was nailed there to. God is not going to redeem that \_part\_ of you. He is finished with it. He is interested in the new man our redeemed souls. Don’t think of temptation as some test of behavior, it isn’t. It’s a test of truth. How much truth do you know? Can you apply it under pressure? The next time you feel sexual temptation rise up say I am dead to this that is from the old life, it has already been judged by God and condemned but, I (the real me) have been redeemed. Don’t try to resist with your will, answer the temptation with the word. That is how Jesus dealt with temptation.
Our weapons are not carnal. I don’t use porn blockers or accountability groups, I think celebrate recovery and the 12 steps are a scam. I no longer identify with my sinful flesh to me it is dead, like a distant memory of some family member that died. Repentance means that I have overcome that thing. Could I still participate in porn or sexual lust, certainly. Overtime and study though, God has removed the appeal of these things. When sexual thoughts or arousals come I accept them but, don’t really respond. I “agree with my adversary quickly while I am on the way with him”. Example “That woman is so beautiful, I would like to get to know her better”. Yes, she is beautiful and on some level I would like to do that. I am a Christian now and dating or flirting with random people isn’t something I should get involved with. Of course I’m free to do so but it wouldn’t be profitable. The problem is my old way of doing it, if I felt any sort of arousal I started tearing myself down. You wicked lustful heathen what are you doing. This approach just makes us easy pickings for the enemy. We tear ourselves down before any sin has even occurred. Now we’re nice and discouraged and easily fall prey to the actual sin of lust and beyond.
James 1: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Hope this helps learn God’s word above all else learn about man’s wickedness Romans 1-3 Justification Romans 3-5 The flesh Romans 6-7 Election and our destiny Romans 8-11. Ever notice that every piece of the armor of God (Ephesians 6)relates back to some truth found in the gospel salvation, righteousness, truth, gospel of peace, sword of the Spirit (God’s word) and faith.
