CONFUSED, NEED ADVICE PLS

Hi all,

Need some advice/help on the below situation. I had a cold sores 5 years ago and assumed it was HSV-1 because my relatives are positive for HSV-1, so I never actually got tested. Years pass and I’ve never had symptoms again or had partners with symptoms and continued with healthy relationship.

Fast forward to now and I’m with my current boyfriend who just tested positive for HSV1 on his penis. Im utterly confused & feel terrible - did I pass this to him? Even without symptoms for so long? Is there a sure way to know that I passed it to him? He’s not talking to me right now and I get it.

I did some research on asymptomatic shedding but am still confused. Any help or others who’ve been through this?
