Frank Yola is relatively new to me but it didn’t take long for me to get hooked into his style. KILLED IT is a single that rang in the new year and let’s Frank Flex his style over a haunting beat. With no time to waste let me break it down!

.

As the Organ plays, the beat slowly builds up while Frank Yola starts in on the hook. A very good beat, maybe not one I love but sets a great background for this song. Frank has a super distinct, deep voice that sounds great on the mic and with this beat especially. Nothing better than a dope and unique voice in Hip-Hop.

.

The theme here is that Frank Yola is a serial killer, murdering beats. A metaphor that’s been seen of course but I appreciate the level that Frank leans into the idea. “No need to call in a witness, homies saying I killed it” Frank says on the hook, admitting full guilt lol. “Studio in yellow tape like it’s a crime scene”, the song is full of bars like this that paint a brutal picture even just metaphorically.

.

This was a dope song, one that held up pretty well for how many times I ran it which can be a tough task. But many, many plays later it still knocks. I have a Frank Yola project I’m looking to get to, and this single got me more excited to dig into that! Check this song out today!
