Monitoring Software
My first work-from-home experience was a hybrid role in the business industry. There was no monitoring software — I just had to complete my assignments by the deadline.
When I decided to pursue my bachelor’s degree, I moved into the medical field because I originally started college as a nursing major. I later switched and now going back to school for Healthcare Administration.
Now I’m starting to second guess that decision after my first full-time WFH job with an insurance company. The job was heavily monitored — keystrokes, time away from the computer, daily productivity metrics, and my manager constantly checking my cases and messaging me throughout the day during projects. Mainly questioning how long it would take on cases 1000 pages or more. When Im sending daily updates and communicating when it would take longer.
I left that insurance company and I’m starting a new position this week with a revenue cycle company. So far they’ve only mentioned weekly metrics, but during the four weeks of training I was told we have to stay on camera the entire time.
For those of you who work from home in other industries:
Is this level of monitoring normal for remote jobs? Or is this more common in healthcare/insurance type roles?
It honestly has me reconsidering whether I should keep pursuing a bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration or switch.
If you work remotely, what industry or job title are you in, and how much monitoring does your company use?
Thanks in advanced!
