Train crush

Encourage Me!

I’ve seen this one guy on my morning commute for months now, always standing in the same spot on the platform near me & we get on the same carriage every time. I’m always there before him so he’ll see I’m standing in that spot too & when we board, we’re either stood facing one another on the train on opposite sides of the Elizabeth line, or he’s stood further inside by the seats to his side (as opposed to facing the front which would mean his back is to me). His body language is always positioned so that I can see him, & I’ve noticed more lately he doesn’t take the free seat when ones available (when he would when I first started seeing him in the mornings). We get off at the same stop & head to our next train (also the same one). It’s a central line train (TfL for context) and he usually rushes ahead of me & hops on first. I typically don’t pick the same carriage as I don’t want to make it obvious or uncomfortable if I’m reading into things - or if I do, I go to the opposite end of the carriage where we can’t really see each other. But I think in instances where I get on the train first, I realise he picks the same one & will often sit in the opposite row of seats in the carriage. More recently, there were 2 central line trains at the platform & he pivoted towards the one departing sooner when the doors opened. I decided to get on the train leaving later & then noticed he got off the one departing soon to get on mine in the carriage next to me. It may have been because it was too busy & there weren’t seats, but it’s got me feeling a little delulu.

I’m really shy & reserved so I probably come across very indifferent - in all these months I can’t really think of a time when we made eye contact, except in the last 2 weeks. I remeber looking up on our first train & feeling instantly exposed because he was looking at me & i can’t remember a time ever really seeing him head on like this. My dumb ass looked away immediately so I couldn’t say if he held it or if he’d have smiled had I held the gaze. The next morning we again made eye contact on the train. It feels big because again, I’ve not glanced at him in all these months. There are a few times when I see him on my commute back home at the end of the day, & he usually gets on at a spot that would be closer towards the exit of our station than me (this one neither of us pick a specific spot, it’s always random). Again this could be me being delulu, but I’ve noticed a few times when we’re heading out & while everyone is rushing up the stairs to get to the exit, he’s walking slowly enough for me to catch up & we end up walking side by side. It strikes me as odd only because I know he usually walks quite fast.

We’ve not spoken a single word this whole time, aside from me muttering thank you when he was about to walk past me to get off the first train & stopped to let me go through first, & we shared a smile. He strikes me as a very calm/quiet kinda guy, he’s always reading on the central line & he doesn’t use his phone all that much. I wonder if these could be subtle signs of interest for a more shy guy? I know the only way I can really know is being bolder with my signs too - which I’ll definitely try - I’m just curious in how others would read into these very small interactions. Thank you!
