[QUESTION] How do I get over the fear of losing watches on a bracelet?

Discussion

TL;DR: Lost a watch that likely slipped off because the bracelet clasp opened accidentally. Now I’m a bit wary of bracelets that open with a simple click clasp.

Very recently, I lost a Henry Archer Verden under very weird circumstances. I put the watch underneath two layers of jackets before going to work. I was about to host a speaker for a research talk (I'm a grad student) and was in a rush to make sure everything goes smoothly. While taking the jacket off after coming inside, I noticed the watch was missing from my wrist. My heart sank, but I had no time to spare because of work.

I remember wearing the watch in the morning before leaving, so after the talk, I retraced my path back to the parking lot. I checked all over the house, the car, and the jacket pockets. I asked in the lost-and-found of our department, and in the local police station.

My best guess is that the bracelet clasp must have come undone. The clasp on the Verden opens with a pretty light lateral push on the bracelet, and I’m wondering if the pressure from my jacket layers somehow popped it open without me noticing. If that happened outside, someone may have simply picked it up.

Now I’m feeling a bit hesitant about wearing watches with simple click-style clasps.

Question:
Has anyone else had a bracelet clasp open accidentally like this? Is this something people worry about with certain clasp designs?
