How to properly use stabs?

So I remapped the thrust mode to my thumb button. Its simple, hold it, move mouse up, move forward... but it just doesnt work. Sometimes with the super sharp swords, it'll cut em, but it hits more like a knick than a proper thrust. Usually with spikes on polearms or spears, it just slides off, or is too wonky and falls before the thrust lands. Usually i just miss it all together for some reason. This makes spears really easy to use, and I feel like it's the reason polearms are so popular right now. They have good reach for thrusts yeah, but they're reach opens up some precise and powerful slashes and overhead strikes from the same distance. They have an easier time getting around sheilds, and you can bully your opponent with it's mass.

Will they ever fix thrusts, or do I just not know how to use them? Do you have any advice or do you just avoid them all together? I think that's a bit silly, since they were some of the deadliest and most utilized attacks withtin medival combat.
