2007 4x4 Tacoma, front diff won’t stop leaking
I’ve been trying to fix a leak on the drivers side axle seal for ages now, been through 3 different seals and finally on this third one I got an install tool that drives them into the right depth instead of using a micrometer so I could take the guess work out of it…
Nope, still fucking leaks.
I noticed this time around when I got the old seal out that the walls for where the seal sits in the diff were a little rough, couple spots seemed to have some scratches I could feel. Are these imperfections a problem that could be leading to the leak?
I also have an aftermarket CV axle on that side, I didn’t replace it but I believe it’s pretty crummy. Can this also be a contributing factor?
Only two things I can really think of other than me just fucking it up even with the tool.
Also is there a breather valve on the front diffs like what you’d find on the rear that could be blocked up?
Any tips to getting this thing to stay shut would be awesome! I saw someone say coating rtv on the outside of the seal helps any imperfections but a mechanic told me that’s a no go…
TIA
