What if Faust's one of the sinners with a sign?
Alright, so the known requirements for having a Sign are being good leader material, having lots of potential and generally being special. Faust, despite having the potential inherent in a genius and being special enough to be like the only person in the city that can naturally talk to a wikipedia managed by her Mirror World selves, seemingly falters so hard on that first one that there's no way in hell she's a candidate. After all, literally every single ID she's ever had is just a follower of someone or something else. Even GripFaust is just following N-Corp's propaganda.
I, however, am here to make the delusional argument that not only does that not make her Sign-less, it's actively part of her arc of unlocking her Sign. First off, I think it's fair to say that to unlock the Sign you first have to become an independent person who's unconstrained by the standards of the world around them. Sonya created Communism in the most capitalist city imaginable, Demian does not give a fuck about anything beyond Sinclair and maybe Dante, Sinclair temporarily unlocked his sign only when he had a moment where he was pressured into coming into his own.
Now let's say, hypothetically, that you've grown up being groomed to/were created in a test tube with the sole intent of following the will of the Gesellschaft in your brain. The only ones that even resemble peers are the voices in your head, for no one else could comprehend not only the mind of a genius but also access to the infinite knowledge your other selves provide you, and these peers happen to only value you for your ability to follow orders.
As such, even if later in life you abandon Faust to instead follow the word of God or of the wing you grew up in or of a really hot chinese guy you found, you're still going to have grown up with the mentality that you live to serve, and thus are unlikely to ever become a fully independent person, let alone a decent leader, regardless of your potentiality in such matters. And needless to say, if you did become independent enough to develop your Sign, not only would you have already been kicked out for not collaborating with the Gesellschaft, you'd be mega kicked out just to make sure no one gets any funny ideas.
I'm getting ahead of myself though, as I haven't even explained what this sign's power would even be, though I'm sure it's obvious. Yes, I think that the Sign allows Fausts to converse with Fausts from other Mirror Worlds, and that at some point some Faust used it to create the Gesellschaft (according to German sociologist Ferdinand Tönnies, a society where the main incentive for its participants to contribute to it is self interest). This Faust, obsessed with knowledge as any Faust is, designed the Gesellschaft specifically to maximize the knowledge held within it, neglecting all other concerns like the basic quality of life of the Fausts.
I theorize that Faust's plotline will go somewhat like the following:
- She decides that dealing with the other Fausts' bullshit isn't worth it (maybe she says "man, if I could access Mirror Worlds without dealing with these guys, that would be truly Ideal")
- Throughout Purgatorio, Faust will unlock her own version of the Sign as she becomes a more complete person
- Paradiso will involve Faust establishing the Gemeinschaft (also according to German sociologist Ferdinand Tönnies, a community where the main incentive for its participants to contribute to it is love for those around you)
THIS IS HOW YURI FAUST CAN STILL WIN
