When to pick zaahen

Im not really "good" on zaahen but I can't see the point in playing this guy in most games, i was really hoping for zaahen to be a good pocketpick or blindpick but oh god some matchups are brutal af. Jax, Garen, Darius and like anyone who can force extended trades onto you just completely smashes me on lane. I understand that he is late game monster but even then I feel like someone like Darius or jax is almost as useful while also being strong in lane. Do you guys pick him as a blindpick/counter pick or some kinda situational pick it they don't have many ranged champs etc..? Cuz it feels like there are other options that pretty much fills those slots even better than zaahen.
