Bird advice?

So my mom has had birds since she was a kid so we always had a budgie in the house as I got older I've learned that the care wasn't the best we could have given them. My mom has a 39" tall 18" wide cage and is looking to get a new bird soon, what kind of bird if any would live comfortably in said cage.
