United Empire Loyalist Descent from US

Citizenship by Descent

Hello! I just wanted to ask some questions about this new citizenship by descent policy. I want to preface this by saying that I spent a couple of weeks in Canada over the summer and loved it! Great place, and I really enjoyed driving across the country!

My ancestors were United Empire Loyalists who moved to Kingston, Ontario, after the American Revolution. Many of the houses they built and the church in which one of them was a pastor still stand. I plan to buy one of their houses once they go up for sale and move up there. How cool would it be to live in the house your ancestors built 300 years ago? I am currently studying a USMCA-approved field at an American University and hope to accomplish my plan one day.

My question: My last direct ancestor born in Canada died in 1890. Is this too distant to claim citizenship one day under the new law? Am I potentially eligible? Does having the same last name as the original loyalist settlers make this easier for me, if possible? And finally, is it rude/disrespectful for me to try to gain citizenship based upon a distant ancestry with no real relation to Canada besides having visited?

I have a $5 Canadian flag on display in my room, which I bought at dollarama if that helps.
