Health Insurance

Individual/Marketplace Insurance

I just turned 60 and I started my retirement and I’m not sure whether to enroll for the TRS-Texas Retirement Systems health insurance. I’ve not worked in 10 years and my husband was self employed so I’ve had health insurance through the market place. I was told that if I don’t sign up now that I will not get to sign up until I turn 65. Right now my marketplace insurance is cheaper (it’s been from $95-$450 in the past years) and I have reasonable copay’s. ($30-$50)

Through the TRS insurance ($200 monthly for individual) I see that you have to pay $1700 out of pocket First before anything is covered at 80% afterwards. I’m afraid of what the marketplace insurance will look like in the next 4 years so I’m debating whether to get it now during my enrollment time or stick with the marketplace. My husband will be eligible for Medicare at the end of this year.
