Tumblers and travel mugs with straw holes
A question to those of you who make tumblers with straw holes: how big do you make your holes? or, more specifically, what size straws do your tumblers fit?
In addition to pottery, I also make glass straws and I wanted to get a feel for an "average" hole size, if there is such a thing.
My glass straws vary in size - from the largest boba/smoothie straws @ 12mm diameter to the thinnest 8mm.
I looked up typical plastic/paper straws sizes and they seem to range between 6 - 8mm for regular drinks and 10mm for boba.
If 8mm does the job then all is well, but if most people are making tumblers to fit your "regular" plastic straws, I think I should look at making thinner straws - as thin as 6mm.
The last time I experimented making 6mm straws, I found them to be a bit difficult to sip due to the wall thickness.
I don't want to go too thin on the straw diameter and do thin walls to the extent of making them flimsy and prone to breakage, but I also don't want bulky straws that don't fit into most of the tumblers out there.
tumbler/mug photos are not mine & for reference only, straw photos are mine.
