Villager asked to leave but is still here?

I’ve been trying to get rid of tabby for a long time and she finally asked to leave today. I said yes she could go and then time traveled a day forward and she was still there, not in boxes at all?? This happened to me a few weeks ago with a different villager and I thought maybe I just hit the wrong button. Is there a fix for this? I can’t find anything online about it.
