I'm purchasing a 2020 M550i (1 owner, 25k miles, yes I'm buying the warranty), however I came across an anomaly from BMW's official documents on the horsepower figures.

As I understand it, all 2020my M550's have the N63B44TU3, which produces 523hp in this spec. The Carmax website shows the vehicle having 523hp (pic 2).

I used the VIN decoder by NHTSA to actually find out that the vehicle has 455hp (pic 1). I dug further by referencing the 565 submittal form as noted in pic 1.

The 565 submittal for the 2020 M550 states "455 horsepower" (pic 3). Won't allow me to link it, but whole doc for pic 3 can be found by googling "2020 M550i part 565 submittal".

Two rational explanations: they get dyno'd at the wheels (seems to be about 15% loss) for the purposes of this document due to some requirement, or they just made a mistake, oh well.

Pic 4 shows the engine bay of said vehicle which coincides with other pics I found of the N64T3, since earlier models didn't have the divet in the air intakes, etc.

I found a press release that showed the bump for 2020 M550 and it stated 523hp. I don't think that the car has 455hp for the record, I think BMW just submitted the wrong number on accident and I'm looking too deep into nothing.

Anyone know why the NHSTA would report the wrong number that was provided to them by the manufacturer?

Thank-you for your time.

I'm buying a 2020 M550i, and I may have either found a mistake or a misprint on BMW's part which doesn't add up the horsepower numbers – looking for clarification.
