How do I cut my family off after continuous control?
Hello everyone! I (f21) left home last year after my mom and dad kept trying to control everything I do.
They forced me to give them my live location (which I have turned off now) and constantly call and ask who I am with and what I am doing. I’m so tired of it all. It seems like I can’t live the kind of life my peers are and it’s making me really upset. I hate the constant surveillance and overbearing habits. I’m tired of living like I owe them something. Nonetheless, they’re not bad parents. They help me out financially and if I were in a dire situation they would help me. For example, I got spiked a couple years ago and decided against calling my parents due to the treatment I would receive afterwards. Of course I don’t expect to receive no punishment, but once my father found out I had to give him my location and follow him to work for two weeks. I told them that it was one of the most traumatizing events in my life and they bring it up by time I don’t behave the way they like. Every mistake I make will be held against me, even years later. I have applied to multiple jobs, but I have yet to receive responses. it seems like I’m never enough and I can’t keep feeling horrible anymore. I just want to be like all the other 21 year olds. In December I got help by a psychologist and psychiatrist, who prescribed me anti depressants. After about two weeks my father took them away and said I should simply get a grip on life and the worst thing is that despite all of this I still love my parents. My mom does disagree with a lot of the things my dad does but she doesn’t say anything to him in order to keep her marriage at peace. I want to be free of this nonsense and I don’t know what to do. Rent is high, I don’t have any friends and I’ve been stuck in the same place for years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
