Hair help

I have 2B type hair as a 17 year old male, 2.5 inches long on top. Lately, I have tried a middle part, and I like it, but my mom does not lol. She likes it was before, no part, just have the curls everywhere kind of, but not messy. Any ideas for what style I should try, or grow it out, shorter, etc?
