Did the last ten or so years of the internet age kill Paranormal/Cryptid belief?

Discussion 💭🗯️

I’m not sure if this is a cultural change or just me getting older. In the earlier days of the internet it seemed that paranormal “evidence” and discussion was everywhere. As a teenager in the early 2010s it was easy to find things online that me and my friends would talk about as if it was real (creepypasta, YouTube videos). Even among adults at the time it seemed like the belief in ghosts, cryptids, aliens was much more common than it was today. I haven’t heard a ghost story in ages, nobody posts on Reddit about strange encounters like they did 10 years ago, seemingly nobody believes in Bigfoot anymore.

It seems like the expansion of security cameras, internet access explosion worldwide and all the other factors of the late internet age basically killed belief in the paranormal. The odds that we wouldn’t have footage of Bigfoot by now if he existed is basically zero but in 2008 people were still holding out hope. Have you observed a similar change?
