How viable is a MacBook Pro for mechanical engineering if I already have a Windows PC?

Discussion

I’m looking to get a MacBook Pro for university, where I’ll be studying undergraduate mechanical engineering. I know some engineering software may not run on macOS, but I already have a powerful gaming PC at home. My commute is about an hour, so if I need those programs I would either have to go back home or use the university lab computers. Given this, would a MacBook still be a good choice, or should I get a Windows laptop instead?

I borrowed a friend’s MacBook Pro (M4) for a few days and was really impressed by the battery life, build quality, and how quiet it was compared to my old Windows laptop.
