5 weeks out from my first marathon after illness and a breakup - would you still run it?

General Discussion

Stats: longest run (25km) was 5 weeks ago; ran a HM PB 3 weeks ago (1:50). I signed up for an April marathon and training had been going well until February.

Hi.

The last couple of months have been rough. I’ve been recovering from the flu, struggling with anxiety/depression (signed off work), and my relationship suddenly ended yesterday. He had been planning to come and support me on race day.

Running and this marathon had been something I was really proud of and excited about, but right now it feels daunting and lonely.

My question is: with 5 weeks to go, do I push on and do the race, or pull out and regroup for another time?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s raced when life has thrown a lot at them, how you managed to rally, or who decided to defer/withdraw and how that felt in the end. All thoughts welcome.
