Would Lu Mingfei and Lu Mingze’s Final Fusion Create a Third Person?

Do people think that when the pairs of the Four Monarchs devour each other and merge into one, they would create a completely new individual — a third person entirely — who carries the memories of both Dragon King siblings?

For those who may not know, within the dragon race, the Black Dragon King Nidhogg once created four pairs of twin Dragon Kings known as the Four Monarchs, binding the eight of them with a rule of power and authority. Under this rule, one twin would possess intelligence but lack strength, while the other would possess overwhelming power but have a frail body prone to illness.

The only way for them to become a perfect Dragon King with invincible power was to devour their own sibling.

Jormungandr once stated that the strength of a Dragon King comes from the purity of their bloodline reaching its ultimate peak. The only way for such a being to break through to an even higher level is to fuse with another pure-blood Dragon King.

That means if either Jormungandr or Fenrir successfully devoured the other, the fusion of the two pure bloodlines would be completed, giving birth to the Goddess of Death, Hela.

Jormungandr referred to Hela as “she,” implying that Hela would be a completely different individual. She would be born from the fusion of the two Dragon King siblings. Hela would neither be Jormungandr nor Fenrir. Instead, she would be a third person, possessing the combined power of both the Dragon Kings of Earth and Mountains.

And this phenomenon is not limited to Jormungandr and Fenrir. The Lu brothers have something similar happening to them — although sometimes the two take turns controlling consciousness.

Near the end of Dragon Raja III, Lu Mingfei and Lu Mingze achieved their first 100% Something For Nothing fusion, increasing their power twelvefold (Lu Mingfei’s body + Lu Mingze’s soul) to fight the new White Dragon King Herzog.

Herzog was shocked when he realized that the person standing before him possessed a special identity resembling the boy he had experimented on for ten years. Terrified, he asked whether he was Lu Mingfei.

At that moment, however, Lu Mingze was the one controlling consciousness. He replied that the body indeed belonged to his useless older brother, but he himself was the one Herzog had experimented on. Herzog could still call him by his old name — Ling Hao.

Because Lu Mingfei’s consciousness had fallen into a deep sleep during this fusion, the one speaking and fighting Herzog the entire time was Lu Mingze.

Lu Mingze was also the boss of the caretaker group consisting of three girls — Ling, Mai Sakurato, and Su Enxi — who had been tasked with protecting Lu Mingfei. After the battle ended, Mai Sakurato flew a plane over to pick up her boss as instructed.

But when she saw the person standing before her, she was confused. She could not tell whether the one in front of her was Lu Mingfei, her boss, or perhaps a combination of both.

If it were Lu Mingfei, she would tease him like usual. If it were her boss, she would show proper respect.

But the person standing there was neither clearly one nor the other.

His face carried a trace of sadness yet also the authority of a young boy, and his voice was gentle like Lu Mingfei’s. He asked Mai to fly him around Tokyo once, because he wanted to look at the city carefully.

The second time happened when Lu Mingfei called Lu Mingze forth after blocking Gungnir. He agreed to trade the last quarter of his lifespan in exchange for killing Odin to save NoNo. The two fused again at 100%, this time increasing their power sixteenfold.

NoNo stared in confusion at the figure standing in front of her, shielding her from the spear. She didn’t know what to do — she couldn’t tell whether Lu Mingfei was still a friend or an enemy.

Lu Mingfei’s consciousness reassured her not to be afraid. As long as he was alive, NoNo would always be protected.

But gradually, the face of the person before her began to resemble that of a demon. Even though the expression was hidden beneath dragon scales, NoNo could still sense that he was smiling — and crying at the same time.

The third time happened without any negotiation or transaction at all. Everything occurred so quickly that Lu Mingfei could not tell whether the voice in his head was a conversation between the two brothers or merely his own internal monologue.

His mother had told him to run away from the dragon-slaying secret society and to run as fast and as far as possible — just like when she used to cheer him on during school marathons.

Lu Mingfei ran forward desperately as she told him.

But the further he ran, the more he felt that if he kept going, he would lose his mother forever.

So he turned back.

And what he saw was his parents arguing. He saw his mother being shot by his father’s assistant, while a pack of rabid dogs rushed toward her, ready to tear her apart.

“No… no… don’t… don’t do this…”

Lu Mingfei’s choked voice trembled as he stood upon the frozen lake.

Then another voice echoed across heaven and earth:

“How dare you! How dare you!! How dare you!!!”

Both voices came from Lu Mingfei.

His expression became savage, and his voice twisted like the wailing of a ghost. He could no longer tell whether it was his own voice or Lu Mingze’s.

Pain and rage filled his mind until only one thought remained:

Kill them all.

Later, someone within the secret society speculated about that moment. They wondered whether that fury belonged to the Supreme Devil or to Lu Mingfei himself.

Their conclusion was that the devil inside Lu Mingfei still possessed empathy.

Everything Lu Mingfei loved, he loved.

Everything Lu Mingfei hated, he hated.

Perhaps that devil had never had a mother. And so, to him, maternal love was something sacred.

Which meant that in that moment, it was not only Lu Mingfei who was enraged — Lu Mingze might have been furious as well.

Those who tried to escape could not outrun the Reaper’s scythe. Others could only stand helplessly as they were swallowed by a blood-red blizzard.

When it was over, the terrifying monster was gone.

All that remained was a lonely boy, carrying an injured middle-aged woman across a field of corpses. His eyes were empty, barely glancing back at the convoy as he staggered forward, repeating the same words over and over:

“Don’t die… don’t die… don’t die…”

Author Jiang Nan also hinted at this idea in Dragon Raja V through a metaphorical story in Lu Mingfei’s thoughts.

A Demon King died in battle against the heroes and, at the last moment, chose a nearby corpse to reincarnate into.

But after reviving, he discovered that the body he had chosen belonged to a complete loser.

The man couldn’t speak well, couldn’t defend himself, and was despised by women young and old alike. Even his parents believed he would never amount to anything.

The Demon King had no choice but to argue with the other soul in the body while helping him flirt with women and conquer empires.

Eventually, the Demon King’s fate was to die once again, while the useless man would live on basking in the glory that the Demon King had built.

But how could that man face the truth that he was nothing without the Demon King?

The women who loved him would disappear.

The rulers who once called him father would lose interest in him.

Even the treasured swords the Demon King collected would become too heavy for him to lift.

So when that moment came, would the useless man choose to live miserably, or die together with the Demon King?

Perhaps the moment the two fused into one, there would no longer be a Demon King nor a useless man.

There would only be a monster.

Inside that monster’s body, the two souls would hold each other tightly, warming one another in eternal loneliness.

Because of this, many fans speculate that if the Lu brothers truly complete their fusion, the result will not be Lu Mingfei nor Lu Mingze — but a third, unfamiliar being.

A monster born from the combined traits of both brothers.

Just like how Jormungandr did not consider Hela to be herself when she referred to Hela as the younger sister of both herself and Fenrir.

Perhaps the ending most supported by fans is that Lu Mingfei and Lu Mingze will fuse into the ultimate monster and fight Nidhogg after the Black Dragon King is reborn.

After the war between dragons, hybrids, and humanity ends, that monster — possessing unparalleled power — would sit alone upon the throne, just as Lu Mingze once desired.

But unlike Lu Mingze, Lu Mingfei never wanted to rule the world.

So before quietly dying upon that throne, the monster would spend time experiencing the world like an ordinary person — fulfilling Lu Mingfei’s simple wishes.

And inside that body, the two brothers’ souls would still hold each other tightly, warming one another in the endless cold of solitude.
