Built a shoppable video app for Shopify - 0 to first 50 users, here is what I learned
Been working on a Shopify app that lets merchants add Instagram/TikTok style swipeable videos directly on their store. Took about 4 months from idea to live on the app store. Some things I learned the hard way: Getting the first install is harder than building the app. Shopify app store is crowded and unless you rank for the right keywords nobody finds you. Cold outreach works but only if you are hyper specific. Generic emails get ignored. When I started targeting fashion merchants who already had Instagram content but no video on their store, response rate went up. Pricing matters more than features early on. Competitors charge $99/mo+. We went with free plan + $9.99/mo pro. That removed the friction completely for small merchants to try it. Reviews are everything on Shopify app store. Without reviews you are invisible. Getting those first 5 genuine reviews is a grind. Happy to answer questions if anyone is building in the Shopify ecosystem
