Markdrop: Most PDF to Markdown tools silently drop your images and tables. I built one that doesn't.
Most PDF to Markdown tools lose your images and mangle your tables. Markdrop takes a different approach.
It extracts images automatically and can pass them through an LLM to generate replacable descriptions embedded in your Markdown output. No more invisible images in your RAG pipeline or downstream processing.
Tables are detected using Microsoft's Table Transformer and rendered in the HTML output with a direct one-click Excel download. It also uses LLMs to generate table summaries if you need them in text form.
Six AI providers supported — Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Groq, OpenRouter, LiteLLM — so you use whatever you already have access to. Works with PDF URLs directly
- 20,000+ PyPI downloads
- 195+ GitHub stars
If you work with document parsing, research papers, or building RAG or Agentic pipelines, this might save you a lot of frustration.
pip install markdrop
I would be curious what your experience has been.
