Tricky situation with USA passport renewal - Middle East
Hello posting on behalf of my friend.
My friend is a US citizen living in the Middle East. His passport expires in just under 6 months (august) he is in the process of moving to a new job so his existing work visa has been canceled. Turns out that to issue the new visa he needs a passport valid over 6 months - and the embassy / consulate is literally closed due to the unstable political situation. He was supposed to get his new visa and start earlier, when the 6 months wouldn’t be a problem, but things got delayed and anyway the embassy and consulate are closed.
Completely lost and don’t know what to do. He’s gonna have a loss of income in this time.
He was advised to figure out how he can get it done through Oman embassy / consulate, which would probably have to be through courier, but even then it’ll take weeks and weeks, plus the transport time to courier the passports back and forth. BUT after sending the email he got an email back saying routine services are closed in Oman too!
Does anyone have any contacts or ideas?
