Experiment: turning flashcard learning into an RPG game

Discussion

I've been experimenting with an idea: turning vocabulary learning into a small RPG instead of traditional flashcard practice.

Instead of just reviewing cards, players:

• earn XP

• level up from A1 to C2 (CEFR)

• compete in small arena challenges

• unlock pets and character progression

• play quizzes in a tavern with other players

• review unknown words in a dictionary system

The core vocabulary base currently includes:

• ~9000 CEFR words

• ~67000 additional words for optional study

The idea is to keep the flashcard learning core but wrap it into RPG progression so it feels more like playing than studying.

I'm mostly curious about design ideas:

what mechanics would make something like this engaging for long-term learning?
