My gallbladder journey
November last year I had my 3rd gallbladder attack It started the same as the first 2: I dont feel well but cant put my finger on it. Breathless, little dizzy. Threw up and immediately felt better. Within 30 minutes I had a tight band of pain around my abdomen. Took painkillers and tried to sleep it off Hour later Im unable to stop vomiting and its only bile. Called a friend to take me to the hospital because I read after my 2nd attack that the gallbladder can rupture and both previous attacks - non stop vomiting and pain lasted days. I did not want to lose days again. Spent 10 hours in the emergency department vomiting despite repeated anti nausea injections with the only respite from the pain coming after repeated fentanyl injections. They took me for a contrast CT scan and seconds after the contrast dye was injected my heart did somersaults and moved to the right side of my chest then back again I told the tech what happened and they continued on with the scanning. I was returned to the emergency department and began throwing up black liquid. More anti nausea injections and fentanyl until a bed was found in the surgical ward. Next day and a half was just a repeat cycle Pain non stop vomiting injections sleep wake to pain vomiting followed by injections and sleep On the 3rd day the vomiting had stopped and Drs told me that I had gallstones but my bloodwork also showed I had a heart attack so they wouldn’t be doing any surgery! First food I ate was roast potato and roast pork. My body has never liked pork but I was starving after 3 days of no food so I had a mouthful. Straight back into an attack with vomiting and pain. After a week in hospital I finally had an ECHO where the discovered a blockage in my heart. 4 days later I was scheduled for an Angiogram This was done and shortly after being returned to my room I went into cardiac arrest. After CPR and shocks I was back in the land of the living! Turned out the stent they implanted tore a hole in my aorta 😱 Coded throughout the night but it wasn’t my time. 2 weeks later I was discharged from hospital with my gallbladder still in place. I cant have surgery until I come off the double blood thinners I have to take for a year following the stent implant. I am so terrified of food and wont eat anything that contains over 5gms of fat for fear of another gallbladder attack. Zero dairy products since December no bread or processed food I MISS CHEESE, PASTA, CHEESY PASTA and my diet is so limited now. I miss crunchy food 😭 Previous to the gallbladder attacks my diet was very healthy: rarely at take away food , rarely ate red meat so Im pretty annoyed! Grateful to be alive obviously but its going to be a very long and food fearful year.
