A Method for Film Selection: Following Award-Winning Films

Films can be interpreted in many different ways; each possesses its own narrative structure, aesthetic form, and thematic concerns. For this reason, every film potentially finds its audience. Among roughly 1,500 films I have watched, only about 30 stood out to me as particularly meaningful, which corresponds to roughly 2% of the total. The average audience rating of these films was approximately 7.66.

This observation suggested the need for a more methodical approach to film discovery. Following award-winning films across festivals, academies, and critics' circles has functioned as a useful filter, helping maintain and gradually expand that small percentage of meaningful discoveries. Let us discuss how this ratio might be improved.
