Which Autel scanner is actually worth buying right now for a serious DIYer?
I’ve been trying to figure out which model really qualifies as the best Autel scanner for someone who does a lot of their own diagnostics and repairs.
I’m not a professional mechanic, but I’m also way past the point of wanting a basic code reader. I want something that actually feels useful in the garage long term.
What I care about most:
- full-system diagnostics
- live data that’s actually usable
- bidirectional controls
- relearns / resets
- decent vehicle coverage
- good long-term value
The problem is Autel has so many models that it starts getting confusing fast. MK808, MX808, MP808, DS808K, MaxiCheck, MaxiCOM lineup… after a while they all start blending together.
So for those of you who’ve actually used Autel scanners:
- Which one do you think is the best Autel scanner for a hardcore DIYer?
- Which model gives the best balance of features and price?
- At what point are you paying for real capability vs just paying more?
- If you were buying one today with your own money, which Autel would you choose?
Interested in real owner opinions more than spec-sheet comparisons.
