Are there any decent politicians or people of influence these days?
It seems to me that many of the unelected people that have found themselves in positions of power & influence (i.e. autocrats, wealthy influential business leaders etc) and those we have chosen to lead us are self-serving narcissists with little if any compassion.
The major international leaders are waging war in various places to the point where many many innocent people are dying and a large portion of the rest of us are bearing the financial consequences.
Even locally our politicians seem to me to be a bunch of glib bluffers that are either inept, or unable to govern compassionately and competently because they bow to the interests of big business, the EU and other global powers rather than actually serving the people that elected them.
I can't remember the last time I heard a politician anywhere expressing any genuine remorse or sorrow for something they got wrong. Or a genuine desire to make things better, locally or internationally.
It feels to me that the world is just going to lurch from one crisis to another, that behind it all an exclusive group of individuals will become even richer (as they did during Covid for example) and the dystopian existence that was sometimes portrayed in an exaggerated fashion in books or movies will become more and more real.
