Don't quarrel over disputable matters

I have noticed that people like to fight over disputable matters, and not get along because of it, even though the things they quarrel over are not essential knowledge for your salvation.

Examples of such topics:

- Is hell eternal or not?

- Are you saved or in the process of being saved?

- Can salvation be lost or not?

etc

---

What does knowing the answers to any of these change?

Don't we believe in Jesus Christ either way?

Why do you care if hell is eternal or not?

Don't we all agree that that it's a place we don't want to be at regardless of the answer? And what does it matter anyway, it's not like we have any authority over how hell is like. Can't we be content with whatever God decides?

Why do you care if you are saved or in the process of being saved?

What does knowing this change? You are going to be saved regardless if you have faith in Jesus Christ, so why is this so important?

Why do you care if salvation can be lost or not?

Just believe in the present, and persist in your faith. Don't be anxious whether it's "too late" for you or not. If you can believe in the present, believe in the present. Do not live a life full of worries.

It saddens me when I see conflicts over such disputable matters. There is nothing wrong with having a level-headed discussion about these, but when it is no longer a level-headed discussion, it saddens me.

These things shouldn't be a stumbling block for us.

Did not Jesus warn us?

John 5:39 - 40 “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.”
