Syslog and Graylog Recommendations

Hello community, I am researching how to view my syslog data. I see many recommendations for Graylog. I know there is a free version of Graylog. Do I need a separate piece of hardware to get the full experience of Graylog though? If so, any recommendations on hardware? How do others view their syslog data?
