Debug mode Official Statement
Regarding the Debug Menu restrictions
TL;DR: The unrestricted debug menu was never meant to be public. The community enjoys it, but we need to restrict some features.
We want to release a statement on the removal of the debug menu, in the interest of being transparent about why we made these changes.
The public debug menu in ER 2.5 was intended to be used as an internal tool for our alpha testers to hunt bugs, test interactions, and troubleshoot known issues. Due to miscommunication, it was released in the public version, and while we recognise that some of the community enjoy having access to the entire suite of debug features, games generally don't give their debug tools to players for a reason.
The team spent extensive amount of time and effort creating the different parts of the Elite Redux experience - the Pokemon encounter areas, the movepools, the trainer battles across different difficulties, and while they aren't perfect, we're still tweaking and optimising things. Seeing that effort being glossed over is rough for us, and also doesn't generate usable feedback for improving the game further in future. The debug features were also used to discover extremely early-stage new content, which both spoils it for the community and sours the initial impression since it's not necessarily functional or balanced. Hopefully you can understand why that's led to this decision. If you have concerns or constructive criticism, please reach out to our community manager
A number of the debug features will still be available, randomizers are still available for pushing the limits of Elite Redux's Pokemon, and we have more planned for the future, some of it coming very soon. Thank you all for being part of our community, for being passionate, and we hope you look forward to the future of the project, whatever shape that takes.
