Do Indian men overestimate “willpower” when it comes to weight?
Lately I’ve been rethinking how I look at weight and “discipline.”
Growing up, it was always explained in very simple terms eat less, move more. If you gained weight, it meant you weren’t trying hard enough. That idea sticks with you.
Now that I’m in my early 30s, I’m realising it’s not that straightforward. Stress, poor sleep, long work hours, hormones, insulin resistance all of that adds up. I eventually spoke to a doctor and started addressing my metabolic health properly (I’m on tirzepatide/Yurpeak right now). What surprised me wasn’t some dramatic weight drop it was that appetite felt more regulated. Like it wasn’t a constant mental negotiation.
It made me wonder do we as Indian men lean too heavily on the “I’ll fix it with willpower” mindset? Does acknowledging biological factors feel like we’re making excuses?
Genuinely curious how other guys here think about this.
